Seven villages in China have been recognized as Best Tourism Villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) in its 2024 selection. This latest recognition brings the total number of Chinese villages awarded this title to 15, making China the country with the highest number of villages honored.

The villages selected this year are Azheke Village in Yunnan, Guanyang Village in Fujian, Shibadong Village in Hunan, Taoping Village in Sichuan, Xiaogang Village in Anhui, Xitou Village in Zhejiang, and Yandunjiao Village in Shandong. These villages exemplify diverse geographical, cultural, and developmental characteristics, showcasing the significant achievements of rural tourism development throughout China.

Azheke Village in Yunnan, located in the stunning Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its collective participation and shared prosperity. Villagers have preserved their traditional way of life while utilizing local resources, such as terraced fields and traditional homes, to create an exemplary model of sustainable community involvement.

Shibadong Village in Hunan, originally a target of ‘poverty alleviation,’ has undergone a massive changeover and helped lift nearly 100 million people out of poverty. By blending culture and tourism, Shibadong has become a beacon of rural revitalization, showcasing successful development to the broader world.

Xiaogang Village in Anhui, where China's rural reform began over 40 years ago, is also making significant progress on its journey toward rural revitalization. Visitors from around the globe can explore this village and witness firsthand the transformative changes that China has experienced.

These villages reflect the rich cultural heritage and sustainable development models that contribute to China's vibrant rural tourism landscape.
