‘Cha chaan teng’ Hong Kong-style cafe has captured the hearts of culture enthusiasts by popping up in a renowned Paris museum complex during the Art Basel fair there.
This authentic cha chaan teng was set up at the Grand Palais, which is famous for its large glass dome, as part of collaboration between the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Art Basel. This event marked the first of a three-year partnership.
Guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s culinary culture, enjoying Hong Kong’s signature dishes and vibrant decor, such as char siu (barbecue pork) with rice, pineapple buns, egg tarts, mango pudding, and Hong Kong-style milk tea.
Tourism Board Executive Director Dane Cheng Ting-yat praised the initiative as a fantastic way to showcase the unique offerings of Hong Kong. “It is exciting to see many visitors coming to the cha chaan teng and enjoy a variety of authentic Hong Kong delicacies. We look forward to continuing to showcase Hong Kong’s unique experiences in different ways at Art Basel exhibitions around the world,” Cheng said. The team is also preparing for next year’s Art Basel Hong Kong, scheduled to be held from March 28 to 30.
