Ne Zha on Paper Cutting: A Fantastic Chance to Promote Traditional Culture
: :

'Ne Zha 2' has emerged as the global box office champion for animated films, captivating worldwide attention. In Suqian, a city in southeastern China, Ms. Tang, a representative inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of paper cutting, has crafted a series of paper-cut artworks featuring Nezha and traditional auspicious patterns.

Ms. Tang's studio is bedecked with over a hundred Nezha-themed paper-cut creations. Nezha holding an apple symbolizes peace, while a jubilantly laughing Nezha embodies happiness. These two pieces together form a popular blessing phrase, as if Nezha is sending good wishes to everyone. The lotus, symbolic of purity and good fortune in Chinese culture, is depicted with Nezha playfully reclining within its petals, capturing his innocent and fearless spirit. Traditional elements like the Chinese zodiac are also prominently incorporated, with a scene of Nezha frolicking with a lively snake exuding pure joy and fun.

Besides creating her own artworks, Ms. Tang also conducts paper-cutting workshops for children. Since Nezha's rise in popularity, she has been teaching children to craft Nezha, which has greatly intrigued them and motivated them to learn with great enthusiasm. Their works, praised by the teacher and displayed in the studio, significantly enhance their confidence. Ms. Tang believes that leveraging the trend of Chinese animation to promote traditional culture to children, cultivating a love for both domestic animations and the rich heritage of traditional culture, is a vital step in building children's cultural confidence.
