Controversy against US dragon stamp design heating up
: :

While United Nation has announced that a special-event stamp sheet will be issued to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, the United States’ latest design of dragon stamp has sparked debate from San Francisco’s Chinese community. The stamp, which features a yellow dragon head with sharp teeth, red eyes and nose, green beard and ears, has been criticized for its resemblance to a monkey or a bull, rather than a traditional Asian dragon which has been long regarded as the most auspicious symbol of Chinese traditional culture.

The design, set to be released at the end of the month in Seattle's Chinatown, has caused concerns among Chinese-American artists and experts, who believe that the stamp does not evoke the happiness and good luck traditionally associated with the Lunar New Year.

In response to the controversy, the U.S. Postal Service has issued a statement defending the design, stating that it was created in collaboration with a professor with expertise in Chinese art history. The U.S. Postal Service emphasized that the design allows for diverse interpretations and welcomes feedback from the public.

Debate surrounding the dragon stamp has been heating up. Representatives of Chinese groups in San Francisco are organizing a response, urging members of the art and cultural circles to write to the U.S. Postal Service to express their concerns.
