Featuring an impressive collection of 492 sets comprising over 780 precious artifacts from various periods of ancient Egypt, “On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt” exhibition will be held at the Shanghai Museum from July 18, 2024, until August 2025.
With roots dating back to the 4th millennium BCE, ancient Egypt's legacy of achievements in art and monuments continues to mesmerize scholars and enthusiasts alike. As archaeological discoveries unveil its mysteries, the allure of this ancient civilization only grows stronger, drawing visitors into its enigmatic world.
The exhibits include statues of pharaohs Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III and Ramses II, a complete set of mummy coffins, gold jewelry belonging to a queen as well as newly discovered painted wooden coffins, animal mummies, and statues from the Saqqara region.
This landmark exhibition aims to foster cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Egypt. This collaboration with the Egyptian government marks China's first comprehensive showcase of ancient Egyptian civilization, presenting the latest archaeological findings in a "super exhibition" of unprecedented scale.
Inside the exhibition hall, the museum creates an immersive display area using advanced technology in lighting, music, and even scent, inviting visitors to delve into history and ignite their imaginations.
