China Insights: How green technologies contribute to high-quality development?
: :

I think high quality development in energy to me the continuous innovation in energy sector, in the use of technologies, and how to really drive new business models through innovations. Through continuous innovations, we can actually upgrade traditional business models. We can use new things and new technologies to replace traditional models to make things faster, to be more efficient, to achieve lower cost, and to get together more people in a short time.

Q1. Since the release of the "Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" five years ago, are there any accomplishment in terms of the economy, technological innovation, culture, or other areas you are concerned about? What are your expectations for the future development of the Greater Bay Area?

I saw for the past five years the Greater Bay Area has achieved a lot of connections between different cities in terms of industrial chains in terms of supply chains in terms of lowering barriers for different areas to participate in the respective areas. And we also see a lot of exchanges of flow of people between cities. We also witness a lot of mutual recognitions, for example, professional qualifications and also a lot of industrial standards. So this has provided hard connections and soft connections between different cities. Moving forward, I think the next stage for the Greater Bay Area is to foster more industrial connections among the respective advantages between different cities. I think the next stage of the development of the Greater Bay Area would be a higher level of cooperation among different cities in terms of different industrial chains.

Q2. Can you tell us the salient points of our policy proposal? How can energy safety contribute to the development of Hong Kong as an international shipping and trading hub?

This year I am proposing to further the strength in Hong Kong’s international trade and logistic center by providing support to constant and stable energy supply to Hong Kong and particularly regarding the quota of exporting like oil to Hong Kong and also regarding the refund of taxes so that we can encourage more ships to travel between Hong Kong and continue to use Hong Kong as a major port for exports. //  So in the long run, I think Hong Kong will be a very good platform to connect with all that international companies so we can demonstrate our capabilities in different parts of the green energy. And we can export or showcase even more of these technologies and foster more interactions and exchanges with different institutions around the world. Hong Kong plays an important role in terms of how to connect the already high standard green energy sector in the mainland with the international sectors.

Q3. What should be done by Hong Kong to leverage its advantages for promoting China’s new energy vehicles globally?

I think China has been achieving a high-level technological advancement in, for example, hydrogen power or even new other energy sectors. China is also setting the standards for different energies. I think that’s where we are right now. In the next stage, there will not only be more about strength in energies and different energy sectors but also trying to go aboard. Trying to go through Hong Kong and making use of Hong Kong to the international stage and showcase the strength of new energy companies in China and to foster more cooperations.

Q4. We know that many countries are making significant efforts in advancing new energy technologies. In comparison, what are the pros and cons of domestic new energy technologies? Where we are now and how far we can go?

I think everyone in the world right now are looking at things in ESG and everyone wants to have a better environment. By adopting and using and developing different technologies, Chinese companies are contributing to this whole movement by technological advancement, by promoting the use of green energy or other different types of technologies. I think that helps to lower our carbon footprint and at the same time, contributing more technologies to the world so that in a lower cost, in a fast manner, more countries and more partners would be able to make good use of this technology to lower down their carbon footprint on one hand, and also to develop their own economies in a short time. The contributions of Chinese companies, particularly the green sector, should be helped to create a clean environment in the world as a whole, because as we provide the technologies, we provide more scenarios to adopt as a try to use these technologies. And we can also make use of places like Hong Kong to do a lot of international promotions. I think that would actually help us to bring together this common goal in a short time.
