For a limited time, Guangzhou residents can experience the vibrant rhythms and melodies of Xinjiang at the Guangzhou Cultural & Arts Center. Harmonic Resonance: The Art of Xinjiang’s Ethnic Musical Instruments brings over 100 stunning handcrafted instruments from Shufu County—the famed "Hometown of Ethnic Musical Instruments"—along with captivating live performances of Xinjiang’s folk music. Don’t miss this cultural feast, running through August!

At the heart of the exhibition is Shufu County’s Uyghur instrument-making tradition, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2008. Marvel at an array of chordophones (strings), aerophones (winds), membranophones (drums), and idiophones (percussion), many whimsically shaped like fruits or everyday objects. A standout is the dutar, a graceful two-stringed lute adorned with intricate inlaid patterns, cherished in Uyghur households for generations.

The exhibition comes alive with performances, including a breathtaking rendition of The Twelve Muqam—a UNESCO-recognized masterpiece weaving poetry, history, and music into a spellbinding symphony. This centuries-old tradition offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the Uyghur people’s artistic soul, leaving audiences utterly enchanted.
