A Chinese-developed AI translation tool is assisting rescue teams in Myanmar after devastating earthquakes struck the country. The platform, powered by DeepSeek’s language model, helps Chinese and Burmese responders communicate in real time, ensuring smoother coordination during critical relief operations.
The tool was quickly adapted for disaster response by language experts from China’s National Language Service Corps and Beijing Language and Culture University. Since its deployment, it has been refined to include voice translation and location-based assistance, addressing practical challenges in the field.
On March 28, powerful earthquakes—measuring 7.7 and 6.4 in magnitude—hit Myanmar’s Sagaing region, causing widespread destruction. Official reports indicate nearly 2,900 lives lost, over 4,600 injured, and hundreds still missing.
Beyond technical assistance, China has sent nearly 30 rescue teams and humanitarian supplies to support recovery efforts, standing with Myanmar during this difficult time.
