[Discovering GBA] Nansha’s Lighthouse Library: A Spellbinding Maritime Haven for Book Lovers

With its ancient castle-like facade, winding spiral staircases, a ceiling shimmering like a starry night, and towering shelves of books, stepping into Nansha’s newly opened Lighthouse Library feels like stumbling into a real-life Harry Potter fantasy.

Nestled at the lively crossroads of Shi’ao Style Street and the Nansha Yacht Club, this enchanting library sits in one of the district’s hottest cultural hubs. Spanning nearly 400m², it houses over 10,000 books—from literature and economics to history—and dazzles with cutting-edge features like facial recognition borrowing, self-service kiosks, and citywide book loans.

Guangzhou, a 2,000-year-old port city, was once a thriving hub of the Maritime Silk Road, and Nansha—where the Pearl River kisses the sea—served as its bustling gateway. The library honors this legacy with breathtaking hand-painted murals, each floor unfolding scenes of 19th-century maritime trade, whisking visitors back in time. At the lighthouse’s peak, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and radiant stained-glass windows symbolize humanity’s timeless journey from past to future.

For the full experience, linger at the in-house café, where the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee blends with the comforting scent of old books—a perfect harmony of culture and relaxation. Ready for an adventure? The Lighthouse Library is calling.
