We participated in the design of many characters in Nezha 2, and when I saw the movie, I found the characters more real and relatable.
The Chinese animation “Nezha 2” has topped the global animation box office, thanks to the hard work of 138 animation companies and over 4,000 animators in China. Ma Xun, a post-90s youth from Guangzhou, and his team are part of this impressive effort, contributing to the concept design of “Nezha 2.”
Working from home is Ma Xun's daily routine. As a designer, he started his own business in 2020 and launched an online design platform. With over 700 designer resources nationwide, he selected more than a dozen designers to help refine the characters for the Nezha crew.

We were involved with more than 20 characters in the movie, and the process took nearly a year. For instance, we designed three sea dragon kings. The task force provided basic models, and we refined and developed illustrations from there. We also worked on characters like Lady Rocky, Infinite Immortal, and various sea monsters. The most challenging roles sometimes took us three or four months to design. We strive for excellence in every aspect, aiming for a final presentation that approaches perfection.
I majored in animation design and production in college, driven by the desire to contribute to the rise of Chinese animation. Reflecting on my journey, I feel that those efforts were truly worthwhile. We are part of a project that will be recorded in history, and I feel both moved and proud. I believe there will be more outstanding IPs and designs like this in the future, allowing us showcase our creativity to a wider audience.
