Spring’s Must-Try Delight: Zhuhai’s Huangsha Clams Are Back!
: :

As the sun rises over the water, fisherman Mr. Huang is already knee-deep in his daily treasure hunt—harvesting plump, juicy Huangsha clams. From February to June, these briny gems hit their prime, luring foodies from across the country to Doumen of Zhuhai, China for a taste of the sea’s finest snack.

Nestled at the mouth of the West River in Zhuhai’s Doumen District, Lianzhou Town boasts crystal-clear, nutrient-rich waters—the secret sauce behind its legendary Huangsha clams. These clams aren’t just big and tender; they’re also protein-packed and loaded with nutrients, earning Lianzhou the crown as China’s official “Hometown of Huangsha Clams.”

Locals keep it simple but genius in the kitchen. The ultimate crowd-pleaser? Steaming the clams with a lively mix of seafood broth, a drizzle of oil, a pinch of salt, and a generous heap of garlic. As they sizzle, the clams burst open with a loud pop!—a sound so iconic, the dish has cheekily been dubbed “Popping Clams.”

“These clams have totally transformed our food scene,” says a local restaurant owner. During peak season, spots serve up to 1,000 clam-craving customers a day! And chefs aren’t resting on their laurels—they’re constantly inventing bold new recipes to keep taste buds dancing. From spicy stir-fries to buttery bakes, there’s always something fresh to try.

So, if you’re craving a flavor-packed adventure, Doumen’s Huangsha clams are calling your name. Come hungry, leave happy!
