Beijing is making another push to dazzle its citizens and tourists this Spring Festival. The city is celebrating the Chinese New Year with a megalight wonderland.
At Wenyu River Park of the capital city, there stand more than 1,000 gigantic Zigong lanterns—crafted by 600 artisans using traditional “intangible cultural heritage” techniques. The event promises to blend dining, tourism, shopping, and cultural appreciation into a pudding of light and deliciousness.
One standout attraction is the lantern set titled Peach Blossom Wonderland, which measures an astonishing 21 meters tall and took 50 craftsmen and 30 days to complete. This absolutely stunning display marries the workaday traditional craftsmanship of Zigong Lanterns with effects derived from modern, cutting-edge projection technology. Festival-goers may very much find themselves enveloped in a spectacle and a vibes-fest as they walk along the incredulously well-designed lantern-wonderland.
