The United Nations has recently recognized the Spring Festival of China as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Nansha District of Guangzhou has been making frantic preparations for what promises to be the grandest ever installment of the festive lantern carnival it holds along the district's coastline.
The 2025 Lantern Carnival, which Nansha will host as the kickoff event for the 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations, promises to be the largest such event ever seen in China, in terms of scale, length, and sheer number of lanterns, as well as cities involved.
The dazzling carnival will see an abundance of 218 lantern sets crafted by over 1,000 artisans. The displays will embody cultural aspects from the 11 cities of the Greater Bay Area, creating a stunning showcase of the regional expertise in lantern-making crafts which have been passed down generations by generations as a part of Chinese important cultural heritage.
