China’s Jingjing High-speed Railway, connecting Jingmen and Jingzhou in Hubei Province, has officially commenced operations since December 8.
Wuhan of Hubei province is situated at the center of China's railway network, serving as a crucial hub that connects the east to the west and the south to the north. The enhancement of high-speed railways will enable Hubei to strengthen its leading role in the central region in terms of transportation.
With the opening of the Jingjing High-Speed Railway, Hubei becomes the first province in China to achieve 100% connectivity, with all its 17 cities and prefectures covered by high-speed rail. The total mileage of the network is 2,142 kilometers.
The Jingjing High-speed Railway starts from Jingmen West Station on the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Yangtze River High-speed Railway in the north and ends at Jingzhou Station on the Hankou-Yichang Railway in the south. This new line spans 77 kilometers and is designed for speeds up to 350 kilometers per hour. It features three stations: Jingmen West, Shayang West, and Jingzhou Station, with Jingmen West and Shayang West being newly constructed.
Traveling from Jingmen West to Jingzhou takes just 28 minutes, while the journey to Hankou Station is completed in 1 hour and 37 minutes. In order to meet the different travel needs of passengers, the railway department has implemented a flexible discount and differentiated market-based fare mechanism on the Jingjing High-speed Railway to provide passengers with more choices for travel.
The launch of the Jingjing High-speed Railway will enhance connectivity in Hubei Province, establishing ‘city-to-city high-speed rail’ links. Jingmen City will be integrated into the national high-speed rail network via the Han-Yi Railway, strengthening the comprehensive transportation system in central Hubei. The project will greatly facilitate the travel of people along the line and promote the high-quality development of urban agglomerations along the Yangtze River.
