Harbin, the ‘Ice City’ of China, will be hosting the 9th Asian Winter Games from February 7 to 14, 2025, marking the city's second time welcoming this prestigious event since 1996.
The upcoming games are expected to draw participation from 34 countries and regions, setting new records for both the number of participants and diversity. Notably, Saudi Arabia, the future host of the 2029 Asian Winter Games, will make its debut in Harbin, competing in alpine skiing, speed skating, and ice curling.
Notable for its ice-sculpture festival and winter tourism, Harbin has been planning significant expansions for the Ice-Snow World, located on the northern bank of the Songhua River, which will increase from 810,000 square meters to an impressive one million square meters—equivalent to 140 football pitches. This winter extravaganza promises to be one of the largest of its kind.
The event will showcase 300,000 cubic meters of ice and snow for the creation of stunning sculptures, including castles and towers, up from 250,000 cubic meters used in previous seasons. The design and construction of the park will incorporate elements celebrating the 9th Asian Winter Games, promising a memorable experience for athletes and visitors alike.
