A largest-ever lantern fair will take place in Beijing from Sept. 14 to Oct. 31 during 4-11pm everyday at the Beijing Garden Expo Park.

The lantern fair with 9 main zones featuring 100,000 colorful lanterns. It aims to showcase the essence of Beijing's culture, such as cultural relics, traditional Chinese paintings, Chinese poetry, and Peking Opera, etc.

One of the highlights is a 10-meter-tall, phoenix-shaped lantern installation with the combination of colored blown paper and transparent acrylic materials by over 20 Zigong lantern craftsman who worked together over 2 months.

More than 20 themed activities will take place during the lantern fair, featuring song and dance performances, theatrical shows, and cultural experiences. Attendees can also engage in interactive activities, including crafting using traditional techniques, solving lantern riddles, and participating in poetry recitals.

In Hong Kong, thousands of lantern decorations have been installed throughout the city each year for the Mid-Autumn Festival. This year, the displays will be illuminated from 6:30 PM to 11 PM at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza (September 6 to October 6) and at Victoria Park and Tsing Yi Park (September 12 to 18).

Right next to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, a display titled 'Dragon Palace on the Moon' features a Chinese dragon created by local multimedia artist Jet Hsu, highlighting the fusion of traditional lantern-making from Zigong in Sichuan Province and modern multimedia art. In Victoria Park, the Lantern Carnival is themed ‘Charm in the Air: Chinese Style, Hong Kong Flair,’ showcasing a mix of traditional and contemporary lantern designs that reflect the four key aspects of daily life: ‘clothing,’ ‘food,’ ‘accommodation,’ and ‘transport.’ Tsing Yi Park’s Lantern Carnival draws inspiration from traditional Chinese poetry, displaying stunning lanterns and intricate revolving lanterns from Foshan to create a poetic and picturesque scene.
