Intercity transportation in Greater Bay Area of China will be undergoing immense changes over the next year! One of the most important infrastructure projects would be Nansha Railway Station which is under construction and is expected to be fully operational by March 2028.

The ‘Nansha Plan’ designates Nansha hub as one of three priority development areas in the Greater Bay Area of China. Nansha Railway Station is planned to be a vital comprehensive transportation hub in southern Guangzhou, enhancing connectivity with key cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Upon completion, Nansha Railway Station will serve as a key connection point between the east and west sides of the Pearl River Estuary, providing efficient one-hour access to major cities in the Greater Bay Area, including Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, and Jiangmen. This will facilitate the exchange of technological innovations, flow of talents, goods, and information among GBA cities, not to mention Nansha.

The Nansha hub includes supporting facilities such as Nansha Railway Station, underground urban corridors, taxi parking lots, elevated car drop-off platforms, municipal parking lots, and above-ground urban corridors. Nansha Railway Station, located on Zhujiang Street, covers a total area of 120,000 square meters and serves as an important station for Guangzhou's passenger transport network. The design of Nansha Railway Station features the wave of sea, reflecting the regional characteristics of Nansha.

The underground urban corridor will be approximately 72 meters wide, 216 meters long, and will have a construction area of about 16,000 square meters (including evacuation entrances and exits). It will connect the underground spaces of the north and south squares and the underground subway station halls, facilitating north-south connectivity within the city.

In a longer term, Nansha Railway Station will be developed into a transportation hub with 14 platforms and 29 railway lines. It will include connections to the Nansha Port Railway, Shenzhen-Maoming Railway, Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Zhuhai-Macao High-speed Railway, Zhaoqing-Shunde South Intercity Railway, Zhongshan-Nansha-Humen Intercity Railway, and through lines of Metro Line 18, Line 15, and Line 4, among others.
