Imagine how a recycled plastic bottle turns into a silky scarf! This green magic has been made possible in Nansha of Guangzhou, which is innovative and inspiring in terms of the ways of doing recycling. A sample of scarf was highlighted at a press conference hosted by China’s State Council Information Office, and captured the attention of many audiences with its story of turning waste into treasure.
Du Yuyan, deputy secretary-general of the Guangzhou Ocean Carbon Peak and Neutrality Research Association, explained that this initiative is part of a carbon reduction project sponsored by the United Nation for mangrove protection in Tantou Village of Nansha. The scarf serve as a reminder for waste reduction, emphasizing that while it's impossible to avoid all garbage, recycling and reusing materials is essential.
Additionally, a group of 13 volunteers from the Agency for Volunteer Service of Hong Kong, along with local Nansha volunteers, participated in a 'Beach Cleanup Action' to protect the marine forest.
Nansha boasts a 190-kilometer coastline and the largest mangrove area in Guangzhou, which stabilizes shorelines and supports diverse ecosystems, earning them the title of ‘coastal guardians.’
