Meteorological monitoring is closely linked to industries like agriculture, aquaculture, shipping, and aerospace. Guangzhou has set up its largest meteorological monitoring center in Nansha, one of the three major free trade zone in China’s Greater Bay Area. The meteorological center acts as a ‘whistleblower’ to minimize losses from disastrous weather. It is composed of a meteorological information center, an agricultural observation field, and areas for wind, rain, and lightning detection, covering over 20,000 square meters.
Nansha Meteorological Service, is equipped with a ‘wind profiler,’ one of the most advanced devices globally, which detects wind direction and speed up to 8 kilometers high and is often used in aerospace. The ‘wind profiler’ can identify downbursts, crucial for aircraft takeoffs and landings, by determining air current direction and intensity.
The center is also partially open for school study tours which can help students to connect their classroom knowledge with practical experiences.
