Fujian - Hong Kong cooperation: Hong Kong’s unique role in promoting Fujian’s cultural tourism
: :

Jason Wong/Group Leader (Cultural & Creative Tourism), Consultative Committee on Fujian-Hong Kong Cooperation

Hong Kong plays a very important role as a hub where many foreigners live and work together. Numerous foreign chambers of commerce have their members based in Hong Kong. We can help introduce some potential investors or invite more foreign chambers of commerce to Fujian for local inspections, allowing them to learn about the latest developments in Fujian. I believe the convenience of visa exemption can be a great help. We can motivate the Hong Kong tourism industry to promote these favorable policies.

This is Changle District of Fuzhou in Fujian Province. Many people often compared it to Jeju Island, and some even call it the Hawaii of the East. It boasts more than 20 kilometers of continuous beaches, which have become popular spots for social media influencers in recent years. But how to facilitate these domestic attractions go international?

Jason Wong:

We have noticed that Fujian Province is rich in marine resources. We can use Hong Kong as a hub to attract more tourists from around the world to visit and develop in Fujian. By leveraging Hong Kong’s experience and standards for welcoming international tourists, we can improve the entire tourism infrastructure in Fujian.

The Cultural and Creative Tourism Group of Consultative Committee on Fujian-Hong Kong Co-Operation (Fuzhou New Area) plans to organize visits for representatives from foreign chambers of commerce in Hong Kong to Fujian in the coming year. Jason Wong believes that Hong Kong has abundant international resources and can help Fujian’s cultural and creative tourism industry achieve high-quality development.

Jason Wong:

For example, in terms of tourism training, whether for frontline staff or those in sectors like hotels and airlines, staff in Hong Kong have many years of international experience. Through training, we can improve the skills of the young staff in Fujian. We also hope to bring the various international brands to Fujian and develop maritime resorts, beach hotels, and resort hotels. I believe this will greatly stimulate local tourism.

There is a century-old red building on the bank of the Minjiang River, called Fuzhou Young Square, and the patriotic writer Yu Dafu once lived. The Fuzhou Branch of the Commercial Press also gathered a group of Fujian intellectuals and revolutionary martyrs more than a hundred years ago, including Bing Xin, Lin Huiyin, Lin Juemin, and others. The history and culture in Fuzhou can be a great inspiration to young people from Hong Kong, especially students, in terms of patriotic and national education. Fuzhou is also one of the birthplaces of the Maritime Silk Road under the Belt and Road Initiative, with a modern Chinese shipbuilding culture. We have noticed that Fujian has many leading industries, whether in new energy or Internet technology applications. There are outstanding companies in Fujian due to the new policies promoted by China. By allowing Hong Kong students and young people to broaden their horizons and understand the development of these latest industries in China, they can be inspired and have the opportunity to go to work in the Chinese mainland or develop in these new industries. I believe this exposure will have a positive and stimulating effect on them.

Under the Consultative Committee on Fujian-Hong Kong Co-Operation (Fuzhou New Area), the Cultural and Creative Tourism Group plans to cooperate with the Education Group to strengthen youth study activities in Fujian and Hong Kong. They will also participate in tourism exhibitions in Hong Kong to promote Fujian to the international market. In addition, the Hong Kong tourism industry will visit cruise ports in Fujian, Xiamen, and other areas to discuss cooperation and jointly develop themed cultural tourism routes and products.

The National Immigration Administration has implemented new policies to facilitate the exit-entry permit for foreigners:

Non-Chinese citizens who are permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macao can now apply for a Mainland Travel Permit, which is valid for multiple entries within five years.
