Chengdu city of Sichuan province, famously known for its giant pandas, is set to host the 2025 World Games. Chengdu will welcome more than 4,000 athletes from over 100 countries from August 7-17, 2025, to compete in this prestigious multi-sport event.

On August 7, 2024, the official one-year countdown to The World Games Chengdu 2025 began with grand celebrations. The organizing committee unveiled the event's slogan, "Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders," capturing Chengdu's vibrant enthusiasm for sports and its dynamic approach to life. The Games will feature 35 sports and 61 disciplines, including pétanque, sambo, tug-of-war, and wheelchair rugby.

The event mascots, Shu Bao and Jin Zai, were also introduced. These mascots are inspired by two of Sichuan's rare animals: the giant panda and the golden snub-nosed monkey. Their designs ingeniously integrate local cultural elements such as the hibiscus (Chengdu's city flower), Sichuan brocade (a national intangible cultural heritage), and ancient relics unearthed from the Sanxingdui and Jinsha archaeological sites. The mascots aim to raise awareness about the protection of rare animals and biodiversity, aligning with the World Games’ commitment to environmental sustainability.

To mark this significant milestone, a delegation from the International World Games Association participated in the celebrations across three major Chinese cities: Beijing, Hong Kong, and Chengdu. These festivities included various promotional activities such as korfball and flying-disc demonstrations, along with try-on sessions for local residents, fostering excitement and engagement with the upcoming Games.

As Chengdu prepares to host the 2025 World Games, the city is set to showcase not only its sporting excellence but also its rich cultural heritage and commitment to sustainability. This promises an unforgettable experience for both athletes and visitors, making Chengdu a must-visit destination next year.
