From Nansha to ‘Belt and Road’: Hong Kong EV charging SME ventures into blue ocean
: :

This year is the Year of the Dragon. Using the dragon as a metaphor, our leading market, like the dragon's head, will be Central Asia, including places like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The dragon's body connects Hong Kong, Macao and mainland of China, while its tail sets on Southeast Asia. We will provide charging piles in these regions and establish our charging stations there.

[Cecil Wong / Board Chairman and Executive Director of Trio Industrial Electronics Group Limited]

I have worked in various companies for the past fifteen years as an investment banker. I've worked in financial technology companies, private equity funds. I joined this company about two years ago. The founders of this company are all dedicated Hong Kong industrialists. I was moved by their sincerity, so I came to Nansha to help them focus on corporate management.

I am Cecil Wong, chairman and executive director of Trio Industrial Electronics Group Limited. What I would like to introduce to you are the charging piles we installed in Kazakhstan. These charging have two sides, allowing two cars to be charged simultaneously. Currently, PetroChina has about a hundred gas stations in Kazakhstan that have installed our charging piles.

Trio Group has been established for more than 40 years and was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange about six or seven years ago. Our priority now is to use the production base here in Nansha to produce power products. Trio Group started here in Nansha about ten or twenty years ago. We were happy to find out that we could not only travel by land but also by sea through Nansha Port. In our Nansha factory, we have set up a global software monitoring system that basically monitors our charging stations around the world.

Over the past decades, Nansha has changed a lot. Now, you can even see driverless cars in Nansha. The charging piles we produce are specifically for charging these electric vehicles. We have witnessed significant progress in automation in Nansha. In terms of automobiles, they are transitioning from gas-powered to electric vehicles. We have entered the new energy business sector to meet this need. In this regard, we can see that both Nansha and our company are developing in aligned directions. The Nansha Government and Dongchong Town Government encourage companies not only to establish local production bases but also to go international. The town government has relevant plans to support overseas inspections.

Basically, every place has its standards. We have to meet certain standards before we can sell our charging piles and operate them. Therefore, we are familiar with both European and Chinese standards. Based on our experience in Europe and the United States, our current charging stations would be targeted at overseas markets, including Central Asian countries and Southeast Asia. What demonstrated here is not just a production base or our 40-year history, but also our ability to sell products to international.

In fact, there are many capable software professionals in Nansha. Nansha has established the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), which allows us to recruit relevant technical personnel from the university to join our group and help create the future with us.

Hello

Staff: Hello

What are we going to eat today?

Staff: Today we have an extensive range of dishes, including drumsticks.

It’s important to know where the ‘root’ is. Out of the 1,700 employees at Trio Group, 1,500 are based in Nansha. We also have production bases in Thailand and Ireland, but the scale here in Nansha is the biggest. Nansha is our most important production base. Without this base, how could we sell our products to countries along the ‘Belt and Road Initiative,’ or even to Europe and America? So, I believe this is a very important ‘root.’

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are both ‘Belt and Road’ countries. Our country has been advocating the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, and as a small and medium-sized enterprise, we are participating in some of these projects. We are adopting our own technology and experience to enter a new ‘blue ocean.’ What we are doing now, in addition to producing charging piles, involves the installation and operation of downstream charging stations. In this way, we not only manufacture the charging piles but also operate our charging stations.
