Exciting news for commuters and travelers in the Greater Bay Area! Four intercity railways in GBA will soon integrate and begin operation. Joining the eleven cities in the Area are cross-boundary infrastructures that contribute to a “one-hour living circle”, where every destination in the ecosystem will be accessible within an hour of commute.

The GBA comprises Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Macao, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Foshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing — with the first four cities being the “core cities”. According to news from the Guangzhou Metro Group on May 14, the Guangzhou-Foshan South Ring Intercity Railway (Foshan West Station to Panyu Station) and the Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway (Panyu Station to Dongguan West Station) will soon be put into operation, further enhancing the accessibility of GBA cities.

The Greater Bay Area has laid down a well-connected transportation network for people traveling between Hong Kong, Macao and the Guangdong province. These lines will be interconnected with the already active Foshan-Zhaoqing Intercity Railway (Foshan West Station to Zhaoqing Station) and the Dongguan-Huizhou Intercity Railway (Dongguan West Station to Xiaojinkou Station), achieving integrated operation of the four intercity railways in the Greater Bay Area.

It is said that after the connectivity of the four railway lines, a 258-kilometer-long east-west traffic spanning five cities will be formed. This will effectively strengthen regional transportation connections among Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, and Huizhou, accelerating the formation of the “one-hour living circle” in the Greater Bay Area.
