Shanghai is set to welcome an exciting new attraction with the world's largest stand-alone Peppa Pig outdoor theme park in 2027. With a massive investment of over 2.4 billion yuan (US$331 million), the park will cover an impressive 48 acres, or 193 square kilometers on Changxing Island.
Shanghai’s officials believed that the Peppa Pig theme park would further enhance Shanghai as a global tourism destination and provide a new driver for propelling its economy.
“Shanghai has always been committed to offering local people as well as tourists diversified tourism products and high-quality cultural and traveling experiences,” said Cai Xiaofei, a deputy director of Changxing Island Administrative Committee.
Since its China’s debut in 2015, Peppa Pig, the British preschool cartoon series has garnered a huge fan base in China. Its creator Hasbro is confident of making the theme park another iconic scenic spot of the city.
The construction of the Peppa Pig outdoor theme park represents a significant milestone for Hasbro in China. Matt Proulx, senior vice president of global experiences, partnerships, and music at Hasbro, expressed enthusiasm for the project, and emphasized the brand's commitment to expanding its presence in more Chinese cities in the future.
Embracing Chinese cultural characteristics, the upcoming park will offer visitors innovative features, new themed areas, thrilling rides, an immersive show, and a specially designed themed hotel catering to the Chinese market, with a focus on providing entertainment for three-generation families.
