Hong Kong has maintained its elite status among global wealth hubs, securing 8th place in the 2025 World’s Wealthiest Cities Report by Henley & Partners and New World Wealth.  

The city remains a magnet for the ultra-rich, hosting 154,900 millionaires, 346 centi-millionaires, and 40 billionaires. However, its 3% growth in high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) over the past year pales in comparison to mainland Chinese powerhouses like Shenzhen and Hangzhou, where millionaire numbers are exploding at triple-digit rates—hinting at a broader shift in global wealth trends.  

New York City continues to dominate as the world’s wealth capital with 384,500 millionaires, trailed by the Bay Area (342,400). Meanwhile, Shenzhen’s staggering 142% millionaire surge—now totaling 50,800—has cemented its place as one of the planet’s fastest-growing wealth hubs.  

While Hong Kong remains a vital global financial gateway, the meteoric rise of mainland cities suggests the wealth landscape may be entering a new era of redistribution.
