Hong Kong French Film Festival (HKFFF) returns with more diverse offerings, running until December 10, 2024. Organized by the Alliance Française de Hong Kong since 1953, the festival has screened more than 1,600 French films over the years, making it the oldest film festival in the city. The festival has attracted a diverse audience ranging from cinema enthusiasts to the general public, including many local artists and directors who first encountered French cinema at this event.
The festival is dedicated to promoting the evolution of French cinema, showcasing its journey from the influential New Wave period to contemporary films. Each edition presents a fresh challenge to highlight the ongoing renewal and vibrant diversity of French cinema, featuring everything from debut works to award-winning films. The program aims to be accessible and truly representative of the current landscape of French cinema.
The HKFFF selection is divided into three categories:
- Festival Exclusives – This section highlights approximately 30 new films released during the summer or set to premiere in the upcoming autumn and winter seasons.
- Retrospective – This category pays tribute to inspirational directors and actors, showcasing a selection of films from various eras.
- On Design – This segment includes films and documentaries that celebrate French art, design, fashion, architecture, and more.
Through its diverse offerings, the HKFFF continues to enrich Hong Kong's cultural landscape and foster a deeper appreciation for French cinema.
