The Hong Kong Museum Festival 2024 is set to feature over 70 exciting programs across its museums and art spaces from November. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this year’s festival will continue to embrace the theme “Hong Kong has history, art, science, and museums.” The aim is to provide audiences with an immersive experience of Hong Kong's rich cultural history and diverse artistic expressions, offering a fresh perspective on museum tours.

Most activities during the festival are free, encouraging visitors to engage and participate on-site. Throughout November, various museums will host fun-filled days on multiple weekends, inviting audiences—especially young people—to explore the richness and depth of Chinese traditional culture. Highlights include:

• November 9: Fun Day at the Shangyao Folk Heritage Museum, featuring a photo area, video screenings, workshops, and more.

• November 10: A special event at the Oil Street Art Space (Oi!), offering “A Tour to Travel with Ceramics Through Time and Space.”

• November 16: Meet the Curators at Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defense Museum

• November 17: “Super Intangible Cultural Heritage Fun Day" at The Hong Kong Railway Museum

• November 23: “Super Intangible Cultural Heritage Fun Day" at Sam Tung Uk Museum

• November 30: "The fireboat then and now guided tour- a firman leads the way” at Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery

This year’s Museum Festival features participation from 27 collaborative partners across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, including those in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Museum Alliance. This collaboration adds an exciting dimension to the festival activities. Notably, the Shenzhen Museum will host the Hong Kong Museum Festival 2024 Shenzhen Branch, presenting the “The Beauty of Ingenuity” series of research activities. This initiative aims to engage visitors, particularly young people, in exploring the rich depth of Chinese traditional culture through thoughtfully designed courses. Participants can look forward to hands-on experiences in wood carving, gilding, mortise and tenon joinery woodworking, seal engraving, and printmaking, fostering a deeper appreciation for these traditional crafts.
