Hong Kong welcomes its first locally born giant panda twins at Ocean Park

On August 15, 2024, Hong Kong celebrated the birth of its first locally born giant panda cubs at Ocean Park. The proud mother, Ying Ying, made headlines as the world’s oldest first-time panda mom.

The adorable cubs are under 24-hour intensive care by the Park's animal care team and experts from the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP). After a critical hydration period, their health has stabilized, and their signature panda features—those iconic dark circles, little black ears and shoulders are becoming more recognisable.

The twin sister weighs about 172 grams, and her brother around 168 grams. Both are feeding well, consuming up to 10 grams of milk per meal, six times a day. The team is also ensuring that mother Ying Ying receives sufficient nourishment and hydration to support her recovery and care for her cubs.
