Hong Kong Fencer Cheung Ka-long and swimmer Siobhan Haughey have brought one of the most glorious evenings for Hong Kong sport by winning one more gold and one more bronze at Paris Olympic on Monday’s night.
Producing a stunning performance, Cheung Ka-long has savoured his second Olympic gold in consecutive Games after a tough battle with his Italian opponent and made the Olympic history.
While Cheung told the media “it was the best moment of his life”, Hong Kong SAR’s Chief Executive John Lee congratulated Cheung and praised that “Cheung is a source of great pride for the people of the city”.
Minutes before Cheung made the fencing history, swimmer Siobhan Haughey finished third in women’s 200m freestyle, becoming the only athlete from the city who has three Olympic medals in her name. Haughey is also the gold medal hopeful in the 100m freestyle, the final of which is on Wednesday.
