Good news to antique fashion lovers! Close to 400 exquisite pieces of French costumes and accessories from the late 18th to early 20th century will be displayed at The Hong Kong Palace Museum from June 26 to October 14, 2024. The exhibition named "The Adorned Body" also marks the first time for the historic fashion wear collection from Parisian museum to be displayed in Asia.
"The Adorned Body" is a visual feast divided into five thematic sections. From the opulence of Court Splendour (1770–1790) to the elegance of The Belle Époque (1890–1910), each section offers a glimpse into the evolution of fashion and jewelry in France, highlighting the cultural influences that have shaped French style over the centuries.
Visitors to the exhibition will be treated to a multimedia experience that brings historical attire to life through engaging excerpts from award-winning films, showcasing the occasions on which these remarkable pieces were worn. Interactive features will allow guests to delve deeper into the intricate details and changing silhouettes of the garments and accessories on display.
What’s more? Visitors can “dress up” themselves in an immersive segment of the exhibition. In a dressing room-like setting, where they can virtually "try on" clothing, accessories, and jewelry pieces, offering a unique perspective on the transformative power of fashion.
The exhibition marks a significant milestone in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France.
