Six out of seven universities in Hong Kong have risen in the latest QS World University rankings. The University of Hong Kong has been reaching its highest-ever position, as the second best Asian university, surpassing the National University of Singapore, risen to the 17th place from the 26th last year. It is believed that Hong Kong's cosmopolitan character remains a strong draw for global scholars and students.

“Hong Kong universities stand out as one of the most improved institutions in the world, this year.” QS senior vice president Ben Sowter said. Reasons for the jump include achieving significant gains in their reputation among employers and research performance. “Despite its exceptional academic and research achievements, Hong Kong still faces challenges in improving employment outcomes for graduates,” Sowter added.

Five other Hong Kong universities have made it to the top 25 universities in Asia. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which ranked second among the city's universities, climbed to the 36th from the 47th.

“This year's ranking is a significant milestone since the ranking started in 2010. This recognition inspires us to build on our momentum and deepen our dedication to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation.” CUHK’s Vice-chancellor and president Rocky Tuan Sung-chi said.

The University of Science and Technology jumped from No 60 to 47 this year, and the university responded that they would continue to adopt new technologies to enhance teaching experiences.

The Polytechnic University improved from the 65th to the 57th, as did City University from the 70th to the 62nd. Baptist University soared 43 positions from the 295th to the 252nd.
