The Cheung Chau Bun Festival is one of Hong Kong's most spectacular and iconic festivals, attracting thousands of visitors to the serene island of Cheung Chau every year.
The 2024 Bun Carnival is featuring a range of activities such as stall games, handicraft making, variety shows, and a display of winning entries in a local student drawing competition
The real highlight of the festival is the Bun Scrambling Competitions, which have been taking place from April 7th to May 16th, 2024. The festival was a celebration of the end of a plague in Cheung Chau traditionally, and now it has evolved into a significant cultural event, showcasing Hong Kong's rich heritage. The festival has become increasingly popular, with a blend of traditional and modern elements.
Climbing training will be provided for participants of the Bun Scrambling Competition, and an invitation relay will be organized for local groups in Cheung Chau to compete against climbing athletes from neighboring areas.
The other highlight of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival is the 'Piu Sik' Parade, also known as the 'Floating Colors' Parade, scheduled to take place on May 15th this year. Young children will be dressed up to represent iconic figures from Chinese history, folklore, or news stories of the day. The parade will feature over 20 decorated floats, along with lion dancers, musicians, and acrobats, adding to the vibrant and spectacular celebration.
This vibrant festival is an opportunity for visitors to experience the unique culture and traditions of Hong Kong. Don’t miss out!
